Composers Now empowers all living composers, celebrates the diversity of their voices and honors the significance of their artistic contributions to the cultural fabric of society. Founder and artistic director Tania León leads the organization since 2010. Composers Now features a broad spectrum of performances in concert halls, jazz mobiles, opera stages, experimental spaces, conservatories, museums and other musical venues.
Dialogues
LISTEN. COMMUNICATE. RELATE.
Hosted by Founding Artistic Director Tania León.
Featuring Adegoke Steve Colson, Iqua Colson, and Madeline Hocking.
Events in the series open with inspiring performances, followed by thought-provoking town hall-style conversations and a forum for meaningful exchanges of ideas between composers, performers, and audiences.
Our 23rd Dialogues program features three composer/performers: Adegoke Steve Colson, Iqua Colson, and Madeline Hocking. Acclaimed jazz artists who have been making music together for 50 years, the Colsons are prolific performers, recording artists, collaborators, and educators. Madeline Hocking is a celebrated violinist and composer who is a member of numerous new music ensembles and has also explored genres such as bluegrass and country.
Improvisation as a compositional device is highlighted in varied ways throughout the program, by the Colsons in a collaborative jazz context, and by Hocking in her work for solo violin and electronics. Following the performances, Composers Now Founder and Artistic Director Tania León will lead a conversation with the artists and the audience to discuss approaches to composition and thoughts about the role of the composer in society.
