Find Letter X is Kate Gentile's band which plays detailed, polyrhythmic compositions with improvisation. This will be the first performance since before the pandemic and will include new music.
Snark Horse is a co-led band by Matt Mitchell and Kate Gentile that plays 1-bar compositions. They released an epic 6-CD studio box set last summer on Pi Recordings with various configurations of 8 additional musicians. For this unique performance, the Snark Horse rhythm section trio of Mitchell, Gentile, and Cass is joined by special guest Jeremy Viner.

The recipient of the 2022 Composers Now First Commission Award is Ebun Oguntola. Ebun is a 16-year-old contemporary classical composer, violinist, pianist and saxophonist living in upstate New York. Her music was brought to the attention of Composers Now by the founders of Luna Composition Lab, Missy Mazzoli and Ellen Reid. With mentorship from composer/saxophonist Erin Rogers, Ebun will create a chamber work for the New Thread Quartet that received its world premiere as part of the Opening Event of the 2022 Composers Now Festival.
